To cancel YouTube TV billed by Google, open tv.youtube.com (or the YouTube TV app), go to your profile → Settings → Membership → Manage, then Cancel membership and confirm. You keep access through the current payment period. Prefer a break? Pause for 4 weeks to 6 months instead. If a carrier or ISP bills YouTube TV, cancel with that provider.
Before you cancel YouTube TV
- Cancel ≠ instant cutoff — Google’s help says access continues through the payment or free-trial period
- Pause is built in — 4 weeks to 6 months; billing pauses after the current cycle, then auto-resumes
- iOS tip: membership management is clearest on the web at tv.youtube.com
- Carrier-billed plans cancel with the carrier, not inside YouTube TV
- After cancel: library recordings expire 21 days after the paid period ends (per YouTube TV Help)
YouTube TV gives you two exits: cancel (stop renewals permanently) or pause (temporary stop with auto-restart). Most “I still got charged” cases are either a carrier-billed plan, a pause that ended on schedule, or a cancel on the wrong Google account.
Cancel YouTube TV: find who bills you
Cancel YouTube TV (Google-billed)
Open tv.youtube.com in a browser (or the YouTube TV app) and sign in.
Select your profile photo → Settings → Membership.
Click Manage → Cancel membership → Cancel to confirm.
Save the confirmation and the access end date. Access continues until the period ends.
Google’s help notes that canceling does not immediately remove access — even during a free trial. If you need access removed right away, contact YouTube TV support (chat or +1 833-389-2054).
Cancel YouTube TV billed by a carrier or ISP
If the statement shows a phone carrier or internet provider — not Google — YouTube TV’s Membership cancel path will not stop that line. Cancel the YouTube TV add-on in the provider’s account tools or by calling the provider’s cancel desk, then save their confirmation separately from any Google email.
- Keep both proofs if you tested both places — only the merchant that drafts the charge matters for disputes
- Bundle packages: dropping a carrier package can strand or reprice add-ons; confirm the YouTube TV line is gone on the next carrier bill
Pause YouTube TV instead
Open Settings → Membership → Manage.
Use the slider to choose a pause length from 4 weeks to 6 months.
Confirm Pause. The pause starts after the current billing cycle; you cannot watch during the pause, and no new programs record.
- Previous recordings are kept through the pause (subject to YouTube TV’s standard recording retention limits)
- Membership auto-renews when the pause ends unless you cancel first
- You can resume early; the resume date becomes the new billing date
- Paused memberships cannot be extended in place — resume and re-pause if you need another break
What happens after you cancel
- Access runs to period end — Google’s help says you keep YouTube TV through the payment or free-trial period
- Recordings: after the paid period ends, recorded programs expire after 21 days; library preferences may be saved if you re-subscribe later
- Restart later: you may not get the same promotional price, and prior recordings may not return
- No automatic refund of the current period — canceling stops the next renewal; disputed renewals after a confirmed end date belong in the refund rules guide
- Account vs membership — ending YouTube TV billing is not the same as deleting your Google account
Still being charged after canceling?
- Earlier authorization or another product: match the receipt, authorization date and covered period. Access through the paid end date does not itself authorize another renewal.
- Pause ended — a pause resumes billing on its own
- Wrong biller — a carrier or ISP line is still active while you only canceled inside YouTube TV
- Wrong Google account — membership lives on a different login than the one you canceled
- Add-on confusion — ending an add-on path is not the same as Cancel membership on the base plan
Disputed post-cancel renewals: subscription refund rules.
Special cases
- Death of the account holder: stop billing at the correct merchant (Google or the carrier), then follow the executor cancel checklist
- Free trial: canceling still leaves access through the trial end unless support removes it earlier — calendar the conversion date
- Household / shared login: canceling ends access for every profile on that membership; tell other viewers before you confirm
- Related Google billing: YouTube Premium is a different product — see cancel YouTube Premium
Cancel an add-on or the whole membership?
Open Membership and list the base plan and each paid network or package. YouTube TV permits individual add-on removal. Choose that route if you want to keep the base service, then save the add-on’s displayed end date and the remaining price. Removing one network is not the same as ending the base membership.
If leaving completely, complete Cancel membership and review all listed add-ons in the result. Save what ends and when. A separate channel subscription bought from another seller needs its own cancellation; the TV used to watch it does not establish that YouTube TV bills it.
Separate the request, access and charge dates
Keep three dates in your notes: when you submitted the cancellation, the last day of viewing shown in the result, and the authorization date of any payment under review. Continued viewing through the confirmed end date is expected; it does not mean another payment was authorized.
A later statement entry needs investigation. Match its receipt and covered period before deciding whether it is a new renewal, an earlier transaction, a separate account or a provider charge. If the account still shows a next payment that conflicts with your saved confirmation, contact support with both records.
Family access and a paused membership
Tell household viewers which membership is ending and its last access date. A member’s Google account and a membership managed by another person are different records. Ask the person responsible for the billing to complete the request; leaving a family group or deleting your own app does not establish that the shared subscription stopped renewing.
For a temporary pause, record the start and automatic restart before accepting it. Review your calendar again before restart if you now want permanent cancellation. YouTube TV says earlier recordings remain subject to the ordinary nine-month expiry while paused, so a pause is not permanent archival storage. Make a list of important programs rather than promising the library will be unchanged on return.
Keep proof and handle special cases
For YouTube TV, save the Google account or provider that owns the bill, the base membership and listed add-ons. Record whether you chose cancellation or a pause with a restart date. Keep the final viewing date with the confirmation, and note important recordings separately so the billing record does not become confused with library retention.
If YouTube TV is charged again, compare the transaction with any pause restart, separate add-on or provider-billed subscription. Give support the receipt, account identifier and original cancellation time, and ask which product and period were billed. Request any approved refund’s amount and posting date without deleting the original evidence from your follow-up.
For a deceased YouTube TV subscriber, establish which Google account or provider controls payment and ask that seller about representative access and required documents. Tell household viewers that billing closure and access to recordings are separate issues. Track the membership and any separately billed services through the estate cancellation checklist.
Cancellation and billing follow-up template
Complete the cancellation in the correct account first. Copy this wording into the official support channel for missing confirmation or a disputed charge; sending a letter alone does not replace the account flow. Keep the case reference, and omit passwords, security codes and full payment-card details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the direct cancellation control?
On tv.youtube.com, select your profile, Settings, Membership and Manage, then Cancel membership and confirm. Save the completed result.
Does trial cancellation end viewing immediately?
Google’s current help says access continues through the payment or free-trial period. Contact its support team if you need immediate removal.
Can I remove an add-on and keep the base plan?
Yes. Use the individual add-on controls and save its end date. Review the remaining base plan and charge separately.
What happens when a pause ends?
Normal billing restarts automatically. Review the displayed restart date and complete cancellation beforehand if you want a permanent exit.
Are recordings permanent during a pause?
No. Previous recordings remain subject to the normal nine-month expiry. No new programs record while the service is paused.
What happens to recordings after cancellation?
YouTube TV says recordings expire twenty-one days after the paid period ends. Returning may not restore prior recordings or promotional prices.
Does leaving a family group stop the bill?
Do not use group departure as billing proof. The person managing the paid membership should complete cancellation and save its result.
Who reviews a provider-billed charge?
The carrier or other seller that collected it. Send its receipt and cancellation record and ask which product and period the payment covers.
