Check Crunch’s Member Portal under Manage Membership and your home club’s current cancellation instructions. Available tools vary, but a missing portal control does not remove cancellation methods required by applicable law. For New York, use the current state protections described below rather than treating the older sample agreement as the last word.
Cancel crunch fitness membership: before you start
- Check the portal first: Member Portal → Manage Membership — if a cancel option appears, you have the easy path; if not, your club runs cancellations directly
- Pull your contract: it names your notice requirements, your annual-fee date, and your state’s exit rights — Crunch publishes club-specific agreements
- Know your home club: every path routes through the location where you signed up; the locations page lists its number and address
- Annual fee timing matters: it lands on a set anniversary month — cancel before it or fight it after with your confirmation in hand
Crunch’s FAQ describes location-specific procedures. Check the actual club and applicable law together: a club’s preference or an older contract cannot be assumed to override current legal rights. The New York section below separates the current law from the published sample agreement.
Can you cancel Crunch Fitness membership online?
Sometimes — and that’s the honest answer. Per Crunch’s official FAQ, some clubs offer online cancellation through the Member Portal under “Manage Membership.” Try it first: sign in at the member portal, open Manage Membership, and look for a cancel or end-membership option. If it’s there, finish the flow to the confirmation screen and save the email.
If the option isn’t there, your club handles cancellations directly — by phone or in person — and the FAQ points you to the locations page for your club’s number. Two things the online path is not:
- The Crunch app is not a cancellation tool. It handles check-ins and account info; app problems go to member services at icrunch@crunch.com, which is a support address, not a cancellation channel.
- A web search won’t tell you which club type you have. Only the portal (or a call) answers that. Don’t plan around someone else’s three-click experience.
Choose the accepted route and retain proof
Member Portal (where offered): Manage Membership → cancel → confirmation screen and email. Screenshot every step; portal flows can be edited later and your screenshots can’t.
Home club, phone or in person: ask for the cancellation form or give written notice at the desk. Sign, then photograph the signed form before handing it over, and ask for written or emailed confirmation with your end date.
- Written notice, if accepted: use the destination in your agreement and a tracked method such as certified mail. Save the signed notice and delivery record; confirm the recorded receipt date.
New members: the rescission window
Under current New York General Business Law section 624(2), the initial cancellation window is three business days after receiving a copy of the written contract. The provision permits written notice by US mail or email to the specified address and requires the refund within ten business days of receipt. This is not the older sample’s calendar-day and fifteen-day description.
State-law exit rights: current New York rules
The older Crunch NY sample remains a reference for identifying contract provisions, not a current statement of every legal requirement. Check section 624(3) for the following grounds and conditions. The club may request reasonable evidence.
| Grounds under current NY law | Proof required | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Significant physical disability preventing the services for more than three months | Doctor’s note | Ask for an itemized lawful calculation |
| Death of the member | — | Estate relieved of further obligations not yet due |
| Moving more than 25 miles from any health club operated by the seller | Proof of new residence | Check statutory refund and permitted deductions |
| Club ceases to offer the services as stated in the agreement | — | None |
For these statutory grounds, section 624 provides a ten-business-day refund period, subject to its permitted expense and used-service provisions. Do not budget an automatic $25 charge solely because it appears in the older agreement; request the actual basis and calculation.
What you pay: dues, the annual fee, and the fees that surprise people
| Charge | How it works (per Crunch’s published terms) | At cancellation |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly dues | Recurring draft; rate varies by club and tier (Signature locations price higher) | Stops per your notice; access runs to the end date |
| Annual facility fee | Check the annual-fee date on your current agreement and account; the older NY sample describes a third-month schedule | Compare the fee period, applicable terms and accepted cancellation; request an explanation of any remaining charge |
| Any proposed cancellation charge | Check the actual agreement and current law | Request the provision and itemized calculation; do not assume the old sample’s fee automatically applies |
| Personal training | Separate agreement with its own terms and billing | Cancel separately — see below |
For New York, the Attorney General’s current guidance lists website, email, telephone, mail and in-person cancellation. Current section 624 also addresses annual and monthly renewal windows. Keep the actual notice and response instead of accepting a claim that certified mail is the sole lawful channel.
The letter that covers both paths
Use this wording through a cancellation channel permitted by your agreement and applicable law. Replace example grounds and addresses with the correct details. Save proof of the notice and receipt; the sample text does not establish that a special cancellation ground applies.
Personal training cancels separately
Personal training is a separate agreement. Ask for its accepted cancellation route, remaining term, final payments and unused-session treatment. Do not assume the gym membership portal also closes training.
Special cases and exceptions
- Moved away: check the current jurisdiction’s relocation conditions and evidence requirements. Ask about transfer only if you want to continue training; a transfer is not a required substitute for an available cancellation right.
- Military orders: the NY agreement doesn’t list a military right, and some state agreements and club policies do — ask in writing and attach the orders; a waiver granted by email is worth more than one promised by phone.
- Medical: where the doctor’s-note right exists (six-plus months of physical inability in NY), use it with the note enclosed; for shorter recoveries ask about a medical freeze instead — freezes resume billing automatically, so calendar the restart.
- Death of the member: the agreement relieves the estate of obligations not yet due — the executor sends the death certificate with the notice letter above; see the executor’s cancellation checklist for the document kit and order of operations.
- Minor’s membership: have the signing parent or guardian contact the club and ask which permitted channel and verification documents apply. Do not infer an exclusive in-person or mail rule from the adult’s signup signature.
- Prepaid / paid-in-full terms: nothing recurring to stop — confirm in writing that no auto-renew clause converts the term to monthly at expiry.
After you cancel: the verification pass
- Same day: save the portal confirmation, the photographed form, or the certified-mail receipt
- Within a week: written confirmation with your end date and final draft — chase it by email if it doesn’t arrive
- End date: club access ends; expected, not a failed cancellation
- Next billing date: no draft should appear. One that lands after your end date is a dispute with your confirmation attached — club first, then your bank, then a complaint to your state attorney general and the FTC
Still charged? Check four causes
- Receipt missed the cutoff: compare the recorded receipt date with the renewal and notice rules.
- Request unfinished: distinguish a completed receipt from an unsubmitted form or draft message.
- Separate service: match the statement entry with training, add-ons or another member’s agreement.
- Remaining amount: ask for the period and provision supporting final dues, annual fees or an initial-term balance.
Ask the responsible billing team to explain or correct the charge using your request, confirmation and statement. A posting date after cancellation does not alone settle whether a charge was owed. Contact your payment provider promptly about a disputed payment and its deadline.
Follow up without losing the original request date
After the club’s stated response time, send the original receipt and ask: “I submitted cancellation for membership [ID] on [date] through [channel], reference [number]. Please confirm the recorded receipt date, effective end date, last access day and each remaining charge. If another step is required, please identify it and explain how the original submission date is treated.” Keep every response.
Cancel Crunch Fitness membership: frequently asked questions
Can I cancel Crunch Fitness membership online?
Check the portal and applicable law. The New York Attorney General lists website, email, telephone, mail and in-person cancellation methods. A missing account control does not establish that legally required methods are unavailable.
How much notice does Crunch Fitness require?
Check current legal rights as well as the agreement. In New York, section 624 also provides post-renewal cancellation windows and a rule for accepting notice; do not infer one universal notice period from a club’s preferred process.
Is there a cancellation fee?
Do not assume the older sample’s $25 charge applies. Ask for the current agreement provision, lawful basis and itemized final amount, taking any statutory cancellation right into account.
What happens to the annual fee if I cancel mid-year?
Check the fee date and liability in your agreement. Cancellation does not automatically refund an annual fee already owed. Ask for the provision and calculation if the final bill includes it.
Can I cancel Crunch personal training but keep my membership?
Personal training has its own agreement. Ask the club for its cancellation channel, end date, final payment and unused-session accounting; confirm that your gym membership stays active if that is what you want.
Does Crunch Canada work the same way?
Canadian Crunch locations are operated separately under their own agreements and provincial consumer laws, so the US paths and state rights here don’t automatically apply. Canadian members should follow their club’s agreement and province-specific cooling-off rules.
Can I transfer my membership instead of canceling?
Often — home club transfers are managed by your current home club, though Crunch notes some memberships aren’t transferable and may require canceling and rejoining at the new location. Ask about transfer before canceling if you’ll keep training; rejoining usually costs an enrollment fee.
I canceled but I’m still being charged. Now what?
Compare the charge’s covered period with the notice receipt and confirmed schedule. Check annual fees, separate services and any remaining term. Send the billing team the evidence and ask your payment provider about its dispute deadline if unresolved.
Is stopping my bank draft a valid cancellation?
No. Blocking the draft leaves the agreement alive and dues accruing, which can end in collections. Cancel through a real channel first, keep the proof, and reserve disputes for charges that land after your end date.
