Life Time lists online or in-app, email through its contact page, and visiting the club as cancellation routes. A notice period is required; check your agreement and save the confirmed end date. Its FAQ also describes a $15-per-month Digital alternative to club access, but confirm eligibility, additional charges and conversion terms before choosing it.
Cancel life time membership: Before you cancel
- Notice is required — Life Time’s own FAQ says a notice period is required to cancel; read your agreement for the exact count
- Compare paid Digital hold with full cancellation: confirm recurring charges, conversion timing and reactivation terms before choosing.
- Have your account login ready — the online/in-app path starts from your MyLT account (my.lifetime.life)
- List your add-ons — personal training, PT packages, and club-specific programs may bill separately and need their own cancel
Compare the total cost of cancellation and a paid Digital hold for the time you expect to be away. Ask for conversion timing, applicable taxes or surcharges and any later reactivation charge before deciding.
Check state law as well as the contract
A club’s published procedure does not override applicable statutory cancellation rights. For New York memberships covered by the Health Club Services Act, the Attorney General’s guidance identifies website, email, telephone, mail and in-person cancellation channels.
New York General Business Law section 624(4) requires acceptance no later than three business days after receiving notice. It also allows cancellation of an annual renewal within fifteen business days after renewal, or a monthly renewal within three business days after renewal. A pre-payment contract cutoff is not a complete statement of those rights. Processing, the effective end date and any lawful remaining charge are separate questions; request the dates and itemized calculation. Other states require their own review.
First: cancel, or convert to Digital?
The three official ways to cancel
Step by step: the online/app route
Log into your MyLT account at my.lifetime.life or open the Life Time Member app.
Open Account and go to the membership-change area (Life Time directs members to modify-membership from the account for cancellations).
Start the cancellation request and follow the notice period shown — the flow will state your effective date and any final charge.
Save the confirmation page and any email with the effective date.
The email and in-club routes
- Via email: use the contact page at my.lifetime.life (the cancel FAQ points there), include your full name, membership number, home club, the requested cancellation date, and ask for written confirmation with your end date.
- In club: visit your home club’s front desk during staffed hours and ask for the cancellation form or submit written notice on the spot. Get the rep’s name and a copy of anything you sign.
- By phone: the support line 888-430-6432 can help with account questions; ask whether the call completes cancellation and request a reference and written acknowledgment. Where applicable law requires telephone cancellation to be accepted, a club’s preferred written procedure does not remove that right.
What happens after you cancel
- Access ends at the effective date from your agreement’s notice terms — not the moment you hit submit
- Check for separate billing: personal training sessions, PT packages, and club programs can bill independently of the membership; confirm each in your written confirmation
- Watch one billing cycle after the effective date; a draft that lands late is a dispute with your confirmation attached
Cancel, freeze, or Digital: the exit decision in one table
| If the problem is… | The move | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Price, but you still train | Convert to the Digital membership | Confirm ongoing Digital charges and reactivation terms before choosing this option |
| A gap — travel, injury, a busy season | Freeze the membership | Pauses dues per the freeze terms instead of ending the relationship; access rules follow the freeze type |
| The club itself (moving, dissatisfaction) | Cancel with proper notice | Compare transfer eligibility, costs and access with cancellation before choosing |
| Done with gyms entirely | Cancel with proper notice | Notice period runs, access continues to the end date, one clean cycle after |
Before choosing a hold, obtain its restart date and recurring charges in writing. Check whether any separate training or family service continues during the hold.
Special cases and exceptions
- Temporary absence: ask about Digital hold eligibility, the effective conversion date, recurring cost and reactivation terms. Do not assume conversion removes a notice requirement.
- Moved away: ask about transferring your membership to a Life Time near the new address before canceling; if there’s no local club, the notice-based cancel is the clean exit.
- Separate services: identify which training, family or other paid service needs its own request and final balance.
- Estate request: ask what evidence the authorized representative must provide and request a written decision on the effective date and remaining balance.
Three routes out: match the route to the reason
Choose between a full cancellation and paid Digital hold based on your agreement and the total cost. For a medical issue, relocation or other exception, ask which provision applies and what proof is required. Do not assume every club grants waived notice or guarantees preservation of the previous rate.
Before you cancel: the three screenshots that settle disputes
Life Time cancellations go wrong in predictable places — a verbal in-club request with no paper behind it, an app cancellation nobody screenshotted, a billing-date misunderstanding. These records help you investigate each problem:
- Your membership agreement’s cancellation clause — the notice period, required channel, and any fee language. It’s the document every escalation ends up quoting
- Your billing date and any annual-fee date — the two dates that decide whether one more charge is legitimate or a dispute
- The cancellation confirmation, the day it arrives — the end date it states is the number your final bill has to match
With those three in hand, the in-club conversation, the email, and the app flow all end the same way: a documented end date. Without them, you’re negotiating from memory against a billing system that logs everything.
If the confirmation never comes
Save the original request and follow up after the stated response timeframe. Ask whether it was received, what date is recorded and whether another step is needed. A missing acknowledgment is a reason to investigate, not proof that you must restart the notice clock. Preserve each attempted submission.
Cancellation request and follow-up template
Use the accepted channel for your agreement. If your club requires its own form, use this wording to supplement it or follow up. A message to an unapproved address does not establish that the notice requirement was met.
Still charged? Check the final schedule
- Notice cutoff: compare the original submission with the agreement’s renewal date and notice requirement.
- Unfinished request: find the final receipt or acknowledgment, rather than a form download or draft email.
- Separate service: match the charge with the correct contract, member and billing line.
- Remaining obligation: request an itemized explanation of dues, annual fees, credits or an initial-term balance.
For a Life Time payment after a requested cancellation, identify whether it is membership dues, a Digital hold or a separately purchased service. Send Member Relations the accepted notice and displayed end date for that item. Ask for the remaining amount and any approved adjustment in writing rather than assuming that changing the membership also ended every paid service.
Compare the cost before choosing a hold
At the advertised $15 base amount, a three-month Digital period totals $45 before applicable taxes and surcharges. Compare that ongoing cost with the specific cancellation and future reactivation terms Life Time confirms for your account. Digital is a paid alternative, not automatically the cheaper decision for every member.
Frequently asked questions
How do I cancel Life Time?
Use the online or app flow, the email route linked by the official FAQ, or visit the club. Check your agreement’s notice requirement and obtain written confirmation.
Is Digital hold the same as cancellation?
No. It retains a paid Digital membership while club access is paused. Confirm charges and reactivation terms; do not assume all notice rules disappear.
How much notice do I need?
The cancellation FAQ does not give one universal day count. Read your agreement together with applicable law; New York statutory cancellation and renewal rights can apply despite a contractual cutoff. See the state-law section above.
Will I keep my old rate if I return?
Ask Life Time to confirm the reactivation terms in writing. Do not assume a rate or enrollment-fee guarantee from the general cancellation FAQ.
Does canceling club access cancel training?
List each separate service and ask for its own cancellation decision and final balance.
What if no confirmation arrives?
Follow up with the original submission evidence and ask what receipt date is recorded. Keep all attempts and clarify any missing step.
