For a former Blink location now operated by PureGym US, start in the US member portal and complete the cancellation offered for your membership. Check the current agreement: notice wording and refund provisions differ by region. If the portal fails, contact US member services at us.member.services@puregym.com and retain your original submission evidence.
Before you cancel
- Confirm your current operator, club and member ID from the account and billing record.
- Save the agreement and any accepted conversion or renewal terms.
- Check whether notice is measured in calendar days or business days.
- Use the US portal and US support contacts; UK instructions differ.
- Keep the original request, confirmation and final-charge schedule.
Blink entered bankruptcy in 2024. PureGym announced completion of its acquisition of the corporate operations and a significant number of New York and New Jersey locations on November 29, 2024. The conversion FAQ explains changes to participating locations; check the operator shown on your own account.
This guide covers account identification, accepted cancellation channels, regional notice rules and the proof to retain. First confirm that your former Blink location is now in PureGym US rather than assuming every former Blink site has the same operator.
Check state law as well as the contract
A club’s published procedure does not override applicable statutory cancellation rights. For New York memberships covered by the Health Club Services Act, the Attorney General’s guidance identifies website, email, telephone, mail and in-person cancellation channels.
New York General Business Law section 624(4) requires acceptance no later than three business days after receiving notice. It also allows cancellation of an annual renewal within fifteen business days after renewal, or a monthly renewal within three business days after renewal. A pre-payment contract cutoff is not a complete statement of those rights. Processing, the effective end date and any lawful remaining charge are separate questions; request the dates and itemized calculation. Other states require their own review.
What happened to Blink Fitness?
| When | What happened | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | PureGym completed acquisition of the corporate operations and many NY/NJ locations in November 2024 | Memberships and access continued through the process |
| 2025 | Clubs begin converting to PureGym US; the old Blink app stopped working August 20, 2025 | You need the new PureGym US app to check in — and the member portal to manage the account |
| Now | Signage and systems phase over to PureGym on a rolling basis; new equipment and self-check-in pods arrive club by club | Same location, same access, new operator systems — including the cancellation path |
The membership itself survived the bankruptcy — that’s the question people ask first, and the answer is yes: PureGym’s own conversion FAQ confirms access continued and members keep their gym. The mechanics around it (app, portal, billing systems) are what changed.
How to cancel a Blink Fitness membership online
- Open the US member portal through the official PureGym US site and sign in with your account email. Use recovery or ask the front desk for help if needed.
- Open My profile / Profile and locate My subscriptions. Select Manage for the membership you intend to end; interface labels can change.
- Follow the available cancellation prompts through the final receipt. Save the proposed end date, remaining payments and confirmation.
- If the flow fails or an option is missing, save the screen and contact US member services promptly. Ask which accepted alternative applies to your agreement; do not assume missing controls merely mean a draft is processing.
If the portal won’t let you cancel
Contact us.member.services@puregym.com, the address on the current US support page, or ask the front desk for account help. Include your membership ID, club, attempted date and error screenshot.
The published Virginia/Maryland terms allow website instructions or member-services email/chat; they do not say these clubs are email-only. Columbia is in Maryland, while Tysons Corner and Springfield are in Virginia. Check the clause attached to your membership.
What you’ll still owe
Ask for the agreement provision supporting each final charge. Monthly no-commitment, initial-term and paid-in-full plans have different obligations. Do not assume every account has a fee-free exit, or that all regions deny proration.
The published New York monthly terms use seven business days of notice and include prepaid-unused-dues refund wording. Virginia/Maryland monthly terms use seven days and describe access ending before the next payment. These are published contract examples, not a complete statement of statutory rights. For New York, read the state-law section below before treating a seven-business-day cutoff as decisive.
Signed under the old Blink name? Two things to know
Save your original agreement and any later accepted terms or conversion notices. Ask member services which provisions govern your current plan and to identify any difference in notice, fees or renewal. The system handling your account does not by itself prove which contract terms apply.
The conversion FAQ dates the retirement of the old Blink app to August 20, 2025. Use current US account tools, and recover access through official support rather than repeatedly guessing credentials.
Special cases and exceptions
For a move, disability, active military duty or an estate request, check the applicable agreement for eligibility and required evidence. Some published regional agreements provide specific exceptions; do not substitute the ordinary renewal cancellation for an exception request without asking.
The authorized representative of a deceased member should request the effective date, outstanding balance and refund treatment. Use the executor checklist. For a minor or sponsored membership, ask who must authorize the change and which account it affects.
The Chapter 11 wrinkle: who owns your cancellation now
Identify the current operator from your account, conversion notices and statements. If an earlier cancellation was never processed, include that original request in the follow-up and ask how its notice date was recorded. Do not assume you must surrender the earlier request date by starting from scratch.
Cancel Blink Fitness membership: frequently asked questions
Build a cancellation record before you submit
Save the agreement associated with your current account, any conversion notice, your next payment date and the membership ID. Check whether the account is monthly with no commitment, monthly with an initial term, or paid in full. Those labels determine different money questions even when the same portal processes the request.
If you cannot find the agreement, ask US member services for a copy and the cancellation provision that applies to your location. Do not assume a newly published agreement silently replaced every term of an older Blink contract. Conversely, do not assume the old contract is the only relevant document when you accepted a later change.
| Published example | Notice wording | What to check on your account |
|---|---|---|
| New York monthly agreement | At least seven business days before the next deduction | Plan commitment, next payment, current clause and New York statutory rights below |
| Virginia/Maryland monthly agreement | At least seven days before deduction | Website instructions or member-services email/chat; final access date |
| Other locations or legacy agreements | Read the applicable agreement | Do not import the UK four-working-day rule or another US state’s terms |
Notice is not a processing-time promise. “Seven business days before payment” tells you when to submit; it does not mean every cancellation takes seven business days to finish. Count weekends and holidays appropriately for the clause you have, submit early, and ask which payment will be the last.
Cancellation or failed-portal message template
Use your agreement’s accepted notice channel. The official US support page currently lists us.member.services@puregym.com. A support email helps document a failed portal attempt, but you should obtain confirmation that it is accepted as the cancellation for your membership. Do not send your password, birth date or full payment details.
After cancellation: verify access, final charges and refunds
Record the confirmed end date and compare the next bank statement with the final bill. Portal login may remain available for records after gym access ends; a working login alone is not proof of continuing renewal. Ask member services to identify any separate training or other agreement you still need to end.
Refund rules are not identical across locations. The published New York agreement includes a provision for prepaid unused dues, whereas other plans and regional terms can differ. Ask for the applicable clause, amount and credit date rather than accepting a blanket “no proration” statement.
Keep your records until the final charge and any promised credit are resolved. If a refund is missing, follow up using the original reference. Canceling renewal and correcting an earlier payment are separate requests; the refund guide explains how to keep them distinct.
Still billed? Check these four causes
- Late notice: compare the submission date with your agreement’s deduction cutoff.
- Unfinished flow: locate the completed receipt, not just a screenshot of the Manage page.
- Wrong service or membership: match the member ID and club to the charge; check separate training and add-ons.
- Remaining contract charge: ask for an itemized explanation of dues, maintenance fees, arrears or a buyout.
Send US member services the timeline, receipt and statement entry. If unresolved, ask your bank about a dispute and its deadline. Do not erase an earlier cancellation attempt by treating a follow-up as a brand-new request: include the original notice and ask how its date was recorded.
If considering a freeze, ask about its cost, maximum duration, annual-fee treatment and automatic restart date. Confirm that it applies to your plan. A freeze preserves the membership and is not a permanent cancellation.
Blink and PureGym US cancellation questions
How do I cancel a former Blink membership?
Confirm the operator first. For a PureGym US account, use its member portal to complete cancellation and save confirmation. If unavailable, ask US member services which alternate channel applies to your agreement.
Are Virginia and Maryland memberships email-only?
No. The published regional terms describe website instructions or member-services email/chat. Confirm the available process for your account rather than assuming the portal is prohibited.
Is the notice period seven business days everywhere?
No. The published New York monthly agreement uses seven business days before payment, while Virginia/Maryland wording uses seven days. Applicable law can provide additional cancellation and renewal rights; the New York example does not override section 624. Check both the contract and governing law.
Can I receive a refund for unused prepaid dues?
Check your agreement. The published New York monthly terms include a provision for prepaid unused dues. Ask for the applicable clause, calculation and credit date; do not assume a uniform rule across all locations.
Which email should I use for help?
The current official US support page lists us.member.services@puregym.com. Include your club, member ID and original request reference, and obtain written confirmation of the cancellation status.
Does deleting the old Blink app cancel billing?
No. Account migration and app deletion are different from ending a membership. Submit through the accepted channel and retain the end date and final-charge confirmation.
